The HPCUG2000 Conference is a key event to learn about all aspects of HP's high-performance computing systems and system software as well as application development environments. It is also a perfect opportunity to talk directly to representatives of development and higher management about all aspects of high-performance computing. And of course requests, wishes, recommendations etc. concerning product features and/or directions are highly welcome. The HPCUG2000 comprises several highlights:

KEYNOTES Duane Zitzner - President of HP's Computing Systems Group, representing top management, will open the conference with a keynote on HP's strategy in the next next millenium.

Janice Chaffin - General Manager and Vice President of BCC's High-Performance Group will provide a keynote on HP's strategy in technical and scientific computing.

Bruce Toal - Worldwide Marketing Director for technical and scientific servers will outline reasons for HP's success at large industrial and research sites.
INVITED TALKS Several invited talks by individuals with a high reputation will address specific issues of general interest - highly controversial issues like JAVA for high-performance computing or SMP-Clusters vs. Single-Image Systems will be covered by two speakers with controversial positions, followed by a general Q&A session.

  • Paul Woodward - Director of the Laboratory for Computational Science and Engineering, University of Minnesota
    "From Vectors to RISC - New Practices and Experiences"

  • Alan Karp - Senior Technical Contributor and Chief Scientist, Hewlett-Packard's Open Services Operation
    "E-Services Does it Mean Anything for High-Performance Computing"

  • Jim Pool - Executive Director, Center for Advanced Computing Research, California Institute of Technology
    "The Largest HP-UX 11 System - Caltech's V2500/SCA"
DEVELOPMENT/PRODUCT UPDATES In a special session, mangers and specialists from the divisonal development centers will present status and roadmaps for all major products of interest in the high-performance arena. These session also allow for a strong interaction between the audience and the speakers. CONTRIBUTED PAPERS Several tracks of the conference are dedicated to presentations by provided by customers from industry, research and government. Please refer to the CALL FOR PAPERS for more details - please plan to submit an abstract this year to allow for scheduling the contribution in the right track. TUTORIALS Several tutorials will provide in-depth information on specific products and/or features - a special focus is on tuning for parallelization and performance as well as on aspects of system administration. LAB TOUR Last but not least HP will provide a lab tour for attendees of the HPCUG 2000. Attendees will get an impression of HP's huge Cupertino facilities and have the opportunity to talk directly to development engineers and get a personal feeling for HP's latests developments in the area of high-performance computing.
