The Linux/ia64 project: past, present, future

The implementation of Linux to the IA-64 architecture started at HPLabs in 1998. The project now known as "Trillian" has grown beyond HP to include companies like Intel, IBM, SGI, VA Linux and all major Linux distributors.
The goal of the project is to deliver a entire port of the system to the Open Source community by the time the Itanium-based machines, i.e. IA-64 first implementation, become publicly available.

After giving a quick overview of the key features of IA-64 and a small history of the project, we will cover the characteristics of the system at both user and kernel levels.
