MATERA (Italy)

ERS SAR Multitemporal Image of a part of the South Italy obtained using three ERS-2 images. In this multitemporal image it is possible to recognize on bottom right, a portion of the Ionian Sea with the Gulf of Taranto, and four different landscape units. From left to top right there is the Appennino Lucano mountain range, the "Fossa pedappenninica" unit, constituted by incoherent rocks and with predominant herbaceous cultivations and just a part of the "Murge" unit, constituted by coherent rocks and with a large diffusion of woody cultivations. On the centre-right there is the hinterland of the Gulf of Taranto, composed by a series of marine terraces intensely cultivated. On the bottom of the image there is the very important naturalistic area of the Pollino mountain range.
