Computational Scientist/Lead Software Engineer

Position Description

The Center for Advanced Computing Research at the California Institute of Technology is seeking a highly motivated individual for taking the lead engineering role in the development of the Virtual Test Facility (VTF). The goal of VTF is to simulate with quantifiable uncertainties complex physical systems, such as interacting fluids, solids, and plasmas, by employing state of the art computational engines from diverse scientific disciplines. The VTF is a highly parallel code that runs on some of the largest computing platforms.

Job Requirements

  1. Ph.D. in physics, applied mathematics, or closely related field.
  2. Five years experience in scientific software engineering.
  3. Experience running programming teams, including teams that cross organizational boundaries.
  4. Five years experience in high performance computing, and the proven ability to develop scalable parallel codes.
  5. Thorough knowledge of C++, python, and component frameworks.
  6. Ability to perform research in computational science and engineering.
  7. Good written and verbal communications skills.
