Final Thoughts
Modeling and simulation has an absolutely critical role in the Stockpile Stewardship Program
- The role of simulation has increased greatly since the end of nuclear testing
- The rate of change is driven by programmatic requirements
Meeting the needs of the Stockpile Stewardship Program requires substantial advances in simulation capability
- A simulation capability is more than just weapons codes
- High-resolution, complex physics, and 3D codes are all needed
General computational science and engineering research has very similar needs for computational power and application program sophistication
I earnestly hope that ASCI’s achievements will stimulate additional investments for computational science at large
