“Open Data and Open Events for Astronomy”
Roy Williams, CACR

Astronomy can advance by combining data from different instruments, by combining fresh observation with archival data, and with data mining of those archives. Rapid follow-up of events from detectors, and multi-messenger correlation can provide crucial insight to the underlying astrophysics. I shall describe some of the exciting results and emerging open infrastructure of this “new astronomy”, including the virtual observatory, the global VOEvent network, and connection to gravitational wave and other exotic detectors.
