Changes in Management and Administration at CACR

CACR is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mark Stalzer as our new Executive Director. For the past twelve years, Dr. Stalzer has held a variety of roles at the Hughes Research Labs (now HRL Laboratories currently located in Malibu). Most recently, he was the Director of its Information Sciences Lab, where he led a group of 70 scientists and support personnel. Mark was previously a Senior Scientist and Manager of HRL’s Computational Physics Department.

His scientific work has been primarily in the areas of computational electromagnetics and parallel algorithms. He has led efforts on several research contracts, and was the principal investigator on a DARPA program that made significant advances in electromagnetic scattering calculations.

Mark holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, a B.S . in Physics and Computer Science from the California State University at Northridge, and has completed the Executive Program at UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management. He has published over 40 papers and reports, holds 3 US patents, and is a member of Sigma Xi, ACM, and a senior member of the IEEE.

As Executive Director, Mark will work with the faculty directorate and CACR staff to help define and implement a long range strategic plan for CACR. He will also be responsible for overseeing CACR’s day-to-day operations.

CACR Faculty Directorate Established

The new CACR Faculty Directorate has the responsibility of providing high level guidance to Mark so as to closely tie CACR research directions with Caltech faculty research initiatives. The members of the committee are:
