Caltech High Energy Physics Tier2
Accessing Caltech HEP Computing Resources

Grid submission to the Caltech T2

The Tier2 is accessible to all members of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. No interactive login is allowed but job submission through Crab is supported. An introduction to using the grid and running with crab can be found on the CMS Workbook Wiki pages. The Caltech T2 is known as T2_US_Caltech or CIT_CMS_T2 and is part of the OSG grid.

Non-CMS members will need to obtain a LDAP account with Caltech and register with the CACR (see below)

Other Local Resources at Caltech

At Caltech we also have a local analysis cluster and other resources. In order to access them, you will need to have a LDAP account and register with the Center for Advanced Computing Research (CACR)

Requesting a LDAP account with the Caltech HEP CMS group

If you qualify for requesting such an account, you should send an email to with the following information:

# Required for LDAP
full name (Name Surname)
preferred username
preferred shell (bash, tcsh)

Requesting a CACR account

In parallel with requesting a LDAP account, the user needs to apply for a CACR account. This requirement is not optional. Fill out the formular in the link below, then after you click 'Sumbit Application' you should also print that page and sign it. Then fax the signed document to the fax number given there.

Obtaining a Grid Certificate

The procedure for obtaining a GRID certificate through DOE is described at this link: DOEGridCertificate
