Title: Unlocking astronomy knowledge from the literature

Abstract: Although an increasing amount of astronomical data is available in online databases, a significant portion of astronomical knowledge is still locked away in unstructured (or semi-structured) text in scientific publications. Work in Computational Linguistics and Information Retrieval is starting to focus on the problem of mining scientific knowledge from the literature, particularly for biomedicine. I will discuss the current state of scientific literature mining and our preliminary experiments in extracting knowledge from astronomical journal articles.
