Title: A Classification Broker for Petascale Sky Surveys

Abstract: Petascale sky surveys of the future include the LSST, which will generate 10 to 100 thousand event alerts every night for 10 years. In order to facilitate filtering and prioritization of these events for follow-up observations, it is essential to provide near real-time classification services of each object and event. The integration and fusion of real-time survey data products with VO-accessible archival information resources will facilitate the brokering of robust astronomical classifications to the research community. Even more significantly, the addition of human-provided annotations and semantic tagging, in structured form, will further enhance and improve the classification outputs. We describe a model for a semantic-powered petascale classification broker for large sky surveys.
