Title: Object Types Validation in SIMBAD

Abstract: SIMBAD is a reference database of astronomical objects: in its latest version, SIMBAD 4, each object can be labeled with different object types. We present a prototype aiming at checking the consistency of the various object types associated with an object. This prototype relies on an ontology of astronomical object types which was developed in the frame of the VOTECH project. The different object types (e.g. Star, Emission-line star, IR source, X-ray source) are matched to the corresponding concepts of the ontology, and a reasoner is used to check both their mutual consistency and whether the object types are consistent with the data associated to the object. We also present different visualisations of the results.
