viewing stereo on your desktop

shopping list
  1. make sure that your monitor is capable of running at high refresh rates (80~120Hz). some monitors require special drivers and lower resolutions to run at these higher rates. check the makers website.

  2. make sure that your 3d graphics card can run in stereo mode. look on your card's maker web site for those specs. (easy check: look if your card has a connector for the stereo glasses on the back of your machine)

  3. make sure that you have the driver for the card that supports stereo. this driver may not be the latest or the one specific to your card. it may be a more generic (works for several cards for the same vendor) but capable of stereo (120Hz).

  4. get and connect stereo glasses/stereo filtering screen & polarized glasses. for a one user desktop the wired CrystalEYES are nice and light (...and inexpensive).

  5. make sure your system (graphics) are in the correct configuration. under windows NT settings may require reboot unfortunately.

  6. run a program that supports stereo. (i.e. TGS's OpenInventor SceneViewer)
