Heritage and our future

Finding one's own identity in a community as complex as the one we live in is quite a task. Trying to figure out where one belongs and where one feels at home is stressfull job, specially when it is just part of the environment where one will try to develop oneself.

So why join a fraternity? Why isolate oneself? Why loose one's individuality? Well, one joins a fraternity to become part of larger collective. To bring ones individualism into a communty which appreciates it. But this will only happen if it is the right fraternity. The right community.

To join a fraternity, or any organization in life one must do it as a personal decision, with the goal of learning about the others, while contributing oneself to the group. But not only that, the group must be able to offer something in return, must be a place where the individual feels confortable. And with this, you increase confidence and a sence of belonging. And these are the keys that will propell any person to become a productive part of the bigger community as an individual representing oneself, and ones group.

And that is what Lamba Kappa Kappa has to offer.
Latin heritage is not racial but cultural. It is an idiosincracy which demonstrates a special passion for life, friendship, and family. And thus, universal, comprenhensible and tangible to anyone raised with it, or willing to taste it, or even part take upon it. And so, Lambda Kappa Kappa welcomes all, under it's fraternizing blanket of latin heritage, education, and knowledge.

Each member or Lambda Kappa Kappa, has joined our community, always bringing something new to it. And as one feels enveloped by our brothers, one grows proud and strong, aware of what Lambda Kappa Kappa has brought into one's life, and what one now is be able to offer to any new member that comes in. And with it, comes the pride of belonging to such honorable organization, distinction that one will carry through out the rest of one's life as an integral part of oneself.

But that is not all. With in all lies the ultimate achievement of giving back to the community. Done by direct contact and involvement, and by the simple fact that one eventually goes back into the system: a productive, proud, and self-achieved human being.

This is the meaning of Lambda Kappa Kappa. And so we present ourselves to world as the future leaders of it, and the current rules of our own desitiny.

The more corrupt the Republic, the more the laws.

-Tacitus

FL: Thank you for this opportunity sir. How are you doing?

JG: Fine at the moment.

FL: What have you been up to since graduation?

JG: I started law School at St. Mary's in San Antonio.

FL: So what are your best memories of LKK?

JG: The comradery

FL: What are you worse memories? (be honest now...)

JG: Gaining acceptance into the Brotherhood

FL: Really? So it there anything that bothered you about the organization itself? Something that you wished you could have changed from the beginning?

JG: I think perhaps made each and every meber more responsable to the fraternity. Perhaps emphazise the importance in dedicating time to the fraternity and letting pledges know that there was a great amount of time one must commit to the brotherhood.

FL: So what do you think was your biggest accomplishment as President of LKK?

JG: Seeing our organization triple in size, the formation of all Beta and Gamma Chapters, growing ourselves.

FL: What do you think LKK did for you?

JG: It istalled in my a sense of responsability i had never had before. I
FL: What is the one piece of advice you would give all your successors?

JG: Work hard and know that one is first and foremost a leader and also be willing to admit when you are wrong.

FL: What do you wish someone had told you about the job before running for it?

JG: Conflict and differences of opinion can be a hinderance.

FL: So, did you ever figure out what "Walk Out" meant? Tell us about it?

JG:I was named walk out because I walked out of the first meeting , I got my named confused with Jaime Martinez and when Silverio nominated Jaime I misunderstood him to be me.

FL: So what was your funniest experience in LKK? Your most fun? Most embarassing?

JG: Getting busted by the Campus Police with Jaime Martinez during our little excursion.

FL: What are your impressions on the weekly meetings? Are they what LKK revolves around? Should they be? How could they be lightened up?

JG: I think they are necesary and that structure should be always present

FL: So where do you see yourself in 25 years?

JG: I see myself being a professional active in the community. Law School has definately opened my eyes to new horizons.

FL: ...where do you see LKK?

JG: I see our organization through strong leaders and hard working mebers as a national organization dedicated to promoting our Hispanic heritage.

FL: What of LKK will still be there with you by then?

JG: The memories and a sense of belonging.

FL: Well, thanx for your time. Great interview! I wish you the best on your studies in San Antonio. I am sure you will make yourself, us, and your family proud always. Good luck!

JG: Thank you and "my advice to the brothers work hard now so that you can reap the benefits of your work later in life. Also, enjoy it while it lasts because where you are now, it will never get any easier.

FL: Thanx, good bye.

  • An so the interview ended. Jaime proved to be a worthy third president of the Lambda Kapps, as he followed in the footsteps of those before him, becoming a catalyzer for the grouth of the organization and the people within. But the quest keeps going on!
